Distant Hugs holiday cards and logo

About Us

Founded in 2020, Distant Hugs is a student-led volunteer organization with the initiative to collect and deliver homemade cards to seniors in assisted living facilities. Our goal is to spread joy and send a “distant hug” through each card and its handwritten, meaningful message. Our current initiatives include organizing seasonal card drives, collecting DIY card kits for patients at the Seattle Children’s Hospital, and a pen pal program that connects students around the U.S. with elderly immigrants. Through these initiatives, we hope to foster a sense of belonging for elderly individuals experiencing social isolation and promote intergenerational connection.
