Founded in 2020, Distant Hugs is a youth-led volunteer organization dedicated to creating and delivering homemade cards to seniors in assisted living facilities. Our goal is to spread joy and send a “distant hug” through each card and its handwritten, meaningful message. Our other initiatives include collecting DIY card kits for patients at the Seattle Children’s Hospital, and a pen pal program that connects students around the U.S. with elderly immigrants. Through these initiatives, we hope to foster intergenerational connection for elderly individuals experiencing social isolation.
