Founded in 2020, Distant Hugs is a youth-led volunteer organization dedicated to creating and delivering homemade cards to seniors in assisted living facilities. Our goal is to spread joy and send a “distant hug” through each card and its handwritten, meaningful message. Our other initiatives include collecting DIY card kits for patients at the Seattle Children’s Hospital, and 2 pen pal programs: one that connects students with seniors, and one that connects students across the world. Through these initiatives, we hope to foster intergenerational connection for elderly individuals experiencing social isolation, and build friendships across borders.
